ENGLISH SUMMARY

AOF (Norwegian Artillery Officers Association) is Norway's oldest military fraternity, established in 1897. We currently count some 200 members. The first female member was admitted into the AOF in 2007. AOF currently has 2 female members.

Our mission is to keep members up-to-date on questions relating to the use and development of artillery, as well as serve as a point of contact for all types of NCOs and commissioned officers within the Royal Norwegian Artillery. In addition, we also advocate the interests of artillery in a larger perspective, as well as striving to enhance the professionalism of artillerymen in Norway.

This is done through a number of channels. AOF offers 6 - 8 artillery related lectures per year, held at the Akershus fortress in Oslo. We also arrange 2 - 4 field excursions per year for our members. Together with the Director of Artillery, we also publish the Norwegian Artillery Times, with 4 issues per year. Each year on December 4th, AOF members are invited to attend the celebration of Saint Barbara together with other members of the Royal Norwegian Artillery and of the Norwegian Armed Forces. This event is held annually at Camp Rena.

AOF has also played an instrumental role in establishing the new organization within ceremonial artillery salutes in Norway. It was AOF that initiated the course which now has become the official Salute Training Course for the Norwegian Armed Forces. This course has been held annually for the last three years at Kongsvinger Fortress, with 36 students per course. The course has become a prerequisite in order to serve as a Salute Battery Commander within the Kingdom of Norway. We have also been trusted with the task of rewriting the Salute Regulations of the Norwegian Armed Forces. The new regulations are expected to come into effect some time in 2008.

AOF abides to the motto of the Royal Norwegian Artillery: "Gjør Ræt – Frygt Ingen!" ("Do right – Fear no one!")
